RESISTance

Ever since I began making scarves for this little business, I have insisted that one particular design element should be present in every scarf, and that element is the painted warp.  It has certainly set my scarves apart, and in my opinion elevated them beyond any of the other handwoven stuff I have seen.  But this week I decided to reevaluate my resistance to what I had deemed an inferior surface design technique: resist dyeing on already woven cloth.  The dreaded "tie-dye" is an example of this process, and I think the mental image of psychedelic rainbow swirlies was keeping me from trying it out on my precious scarves.  But I had a fully white warp on my loom that needed to be woven...so I thought I would weave some plain old scarves (Zzzzzz), then give resist dyeing a try...with little fool style, of course.  Here's what happened:
Snoozefest 2011.  I know they're pretty, but they were kind of boring to weave.

Apply the resistance!

Smushed silk scarf.
Rub-a-dub-dub, one scarf in the tub.
And...totally worth it.  Say hello to Double and Triple Zip Resist Scarves!

Yes, this will be happening again.  Hooray for trying new things!
