The Craft Show
I spent a good part of my day yesterday at the Craft and Design Show, where Quirk had a good-looking booth that included some Lf scarves. Ever since I took those last scarf photos for my new website, I have been thinking about how important it will be for potential buyers to be able to touch my scarves, to look at them from all angles, to feel their weight and drape across their shoulders. One solution to this is the high-end craft show, but I have been hesitant. From what I hear, the craft show circuit can be pretty brutal. How perfect, then, that Quirk has taken Lf to Richmond's big craft show: it is a no-risk opportunity to check out the scene. My conclusion from my experience yesterday is that I would be willing to do a high-end craft show as an independent vendor, but I've got some work to do first. Most importantly, I need to gather some major inventory...and variety, too (both in price point and color/design). I feel like each of my scarves is waiting for that specific person it's going to speak to, and with so few scarves at the Quirk booth that leaves me with a very narrow customer pool. Wouldn't it be lovely to have my own little booth in the future, with scarves spilling out of all kinds of nooks and crannies, just begging to be taken home? Packed with customers agonizing over which scarf to choose? I think I'm just remembering myself in the Istanbul textile market, but hey, it could happen. I just need to make more scarves...and find a population of textile nerds (like me) to sell them to.
