I can't believe that after a year of painting script into the corners of countless scarves, I'm still not settled about the way I apply my Lf logo. No, I can...as a business one must always refine...always seek perfection. Right? The big question is whether I should paint the logo with pigment or dye. You may remember a recent post with a highly victorious tone in which I described how I would now be applying the logo with dye. The big advantage of this method: no texture change between the surface
of the scarf and the logo.

I implemented the new method on a fresh batch of scarves and the results were good. But a few days later, during my open studio, I had a really helpful conversation with a former student of mine (from when I taught while in grad school at VCU), who got to see a wide selection of my scarves in person, said she preferred the bold contrast and substance of the pigment-based logo (which comes out darker and feels different from the cloth) to the slightly more subtle dye-based logo. That got me thinking...what's wrong with a little surface texture if it's only in one little corner? As Molly pointed out, I want my brand to stand out (it is a very beautiful piece of script, in my opinion.) I think I'm going back to pigment, but I'll keep the dye method in my back pocket...you never know when alternative techniques could be useful, after all. Thanks for that chat, Molly!
Absolutely no problem!
