Hard Hat Area: Construction Begins.

I'm starting to flesh out my website, which must include all kinds of things like an "about" page, my online shop, and of course a link to this blog.  Below is what I am envisioning for a page called "Meet Little Fool"... I have to look legitimate, you know.   So... do I look legitimate?

Meet Little Fool

Hi there!  I'm Andrea, the brains and brute strength behind Little Fool Handwoven Textiles.  Originally from Raleigh, North Carolina, I did my undergraduate work in the Art and Design program at NC State University's College of Design.  It was there, in the spring of 2004 and a Beginning Textiles studio, that I met my first loom.  Sparks flew!  I fell deeply in love, watching my first handwoven cloth emerge slowly before my eyes as I learned how to work with the elegant machine that is a loom.  I've been weaving like crazy ever since.  After college, I spent a couple of years working, traveling, and weaving on the Nilus Leclerc loom I acquired during my last year of school.  This loom, at the size of a full bed, threatened to take over my little apartment, and the textile paraphernalia of a fiber artist at work was constantly expanding over any available wall or work surface.  Weaving away in my studio/home, I fell into a mildly troubling habit of wearing pajamas all the time.  When I began sorting my favorite clothes into "day" pj's and "night" pj's, I knew it was time for a change: a new city, and the next phase of my fiber education.  In 2008 I moved up to Richmond, Virginia to wrestle a Master of Fine Arts degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, where I studied under the wonderful professors of the Craft Department in the School of the Arts.  Graduate school was, of course, a very serious business, and every minute of my weaving time was dedicated to my artwork, not wearable textiles (visit www.andreadonnelly.com to see what my artwork is all about.)  I received my MFA in Fibers in the summer of 2010.  VCU may have sent me on my way, but sweet little Richmond just won't let me go, and the love story continues here in the River City.  I found a studio, got a second loom, and officially launched my small business.  Little Fool Handwoven Textiles and the accompanying blog, "little fool...(a small business romance)" is a labor of my love for the act of weaving and the touch of exquisite materials, of exploration and experimentation with color, texture, pattern and design.  I still spend a lot of time using my looms for my artwork.  Yet making textiles that are meant to be worn, that have an intimate relationship (perhaps forever) bringing joy, comfort, or delight to the person that owns them, is an incredibly fulfilling part of my studio practice.  I hope that you can feel the love, too.

  1. hi - I just found your blog via another...I first learned to weave in undergrad as well and loved it. I am on search (and saving up) for a floor loom of my own. Beautiful scarves!

  3. Did you make all these by yourself? Wow, you are so good. But yeah, in order to improve your business, you need to invest in better equipment. It will be worth it, trust me. The better your credibility is, the better your chances are to gain customers.
